The Rascals - Suspicious Wit

These guys share a sound with their town mates The Coral, who they have toured with, and a touch of the Bunnymen. They have also toured with The Zutons and The Arctic Monkeys. Anyway, this is their 2nd EP and their debut album is scheduled for June.

Tour: They are at SXSW on March 14th at Wave Rooftop. The Faccebook app for the blog now pushes the latest video to your profile and has an updated Blog screen (There's an issue with MTV videos but I'll work on it)

Kinski - Punching Goodbye Out Front

This has a touch of the B.R.M.C. about it, although with a bit more guitar lead. Taken from the 2007 album "Down Below It's Chaos". They are a 4 piece band from Seattle and this is their 3rd album. For a contrast with this track, check out "Plan Steal Drive" on their MySpace page.
Just looking at their tour schedule - They were in Roisin Dubh in Galway Ireland on Feb 22nd. I was there in December to see Pier 19 and am looking forward to them getting some of their new stuff recorded.

MGMT - Time to Pretend

I thought I had posted this one before, but looks like I sat on it for a long time (There was no YouTube embed code). Taken from the wonderfully titled "Oracular Spectacular". The visuals in this are great, love the surf board. Currently on tour in Europe they will be back for Coachella on April 26th so look out for warm up gigs.
Talking of festivals, if you are thinking about Glastonbury this year, then you have to pre-register by midnight (UK) March 14th here.

Shocking Pinks - Emily

From the DFA signed New Zealand band "Shocking Pinks". This has been on the Bubbling list for a while and now it's time for it to graduate. It's got a cool little vibe to the song and the video is nicely done. This is due out on March 3rd 2008 taken from the self titled album from September last year

The Sonic Hearts - To Be Someone

I detect an influence from The Coral in this. According to their MySpace page they hail from Liverpool. The single is not out until March 31st (Probably a UK date) and isn't listed on Amazon in the US yet. It's got a nice sound to it. I do not see any tour dates. Enjoy.

Alright,Subterranean got the scoop on this, but hey they also followed them on the video shoot (Yawn!)- This is the 'kin 'mazing opening track to the blazing "Lust, lust, lust" . Anyway, I wish they had put it on YouTube so I could have shown it more easily but... NOTE:Not in the shows as not via YouTube

Basia Bulat - In The Night

Taken from the album "Oh my darling" released in the US on Feb 5th. More animal costumes (I know, it's becoming a novelty after British Sea Power - Waving Flags). I was in the Grand Canyon, so the animals count as my gift of nature to you (aw!). She was at Bottom of the Hill in SF at the weekend (Oops! I'll try and co-ordinate my posts a little better in future)

Also, don't forget to check out the Bubbling channel which currently features videos from "Adam Green", "Vincent, Vincent and the villains", "Enjoy Destroy", British Sea Power", "MGMT" and "Shocking Pinks" amongst others

Elbow - Grounds for Divorce

"I've been working on a cocktail called 'Grounds for Divorce'" - And so opens the new track from Elbow to cheer me up in 2008. Happy Valentines Day. The single is out March 10th and the album "Seldom Seen Kid" is out St.Patrick's day (March 17th) - BIG NOTE - I suspect they are the UK release dates and I do not see anything for the US yet and it's usually later. Amazing live, they are on tour in the UK in April.

Against Me - Stop!

Something upbeat for a Monday. The first time I heard this I liked it, and then I doubted myself and thought "It's just me! I love the simple drums and laddish chorus" and shelved it on my Bubbling list for a while. But now I have confessed to the bubbling list I have to revisit it and rescue songs like this. Let's hope they can follow it up. Currently supporting the Foo Fighters and then the Drop Kick Murphys through to April with the odd individual gig - Check Pollstar.

80s: A-Ha Take on Me

Okay, the pencil drawings in the Futureheads new video reminded me that this would be a good pick for eighties Friday. I preferred "Manhattan Skyline" off "Scoundrel Days" as a song but this was "the" video to beat at the time. Looking up these guys, they are playing the "Royal Albert Hall" on May 24th as individuals i.e. 3 separate performances although they will potentially perform together.

Clinic - Free Not Free

Saw these guys years ago. They were wearing the full scrubs then and it is good to see they are still wearing the surgical masks. They have mellowed over time but still have that unique sound. This is taken from the new album "Do it!" due out on April 8th, 2008.
For those in the Bay Area, they are at The Independent on May 19th, 2008 - Tickets, when they are available, will be on sale via TicketWeb.

Editors - The Racing Rats

A great CD from last year, one of the most compelling dark pop albums in this half of the noughties. I was reminded by the Louis XIV vid - My fave line from the album "The saddest thing I ever saw was smokers outside the hospital door", ah, misery. For those in the Bay Area, they are here Feb 8th, 2008 at The Warfield (With the Louis XIV and Hot, Hot Heat) and tickets are available here

80s: Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes

After the show of gipper love at last night's Republican debate, there was no doubt in my mind what should be this Friday's 80s video. This was the first band I ever saw live and I loved it (Manchester Apollo). Been going to live gigs ever since. (Admittedly, the 2nd was Sting on the "Dream of the Blue Turtles" tour which was v. cool). Love the bit where Reagan bites his ear...
